Cloud DevOps Engineer

Expedient is a provider of multi-cloud platforms, data hosting & security and data center infrastructure as a service (IaaS) solutions. Expedient provides the means for its clients to transition to the cloud, enabling them to focus on strategic business innovation while the Expedient team handles the IT needed to support it.  

The Cloud DevOps Engineer will be responsible for working as a member of the Product Operations team to develop and maintain our Enterprise Cloud platform and Multi-Cloud Universal Services. We are looking for a candidate that will bring experience and ideas to continuously optimize cloud environments, streamline existing processes through software automation and provide clients with increased functionality in the areas of observability, security and cost analysis. 

A successful Cloud DevOps Engineer will be well-versed in a broad range of technical applications with a heavy emphasis on centralized platforms for automation, observability and security, virtualization, and IT Orchestration technologies. This position requires superior documentation and communication skills and the ability to work on a team, cross functionally with members of our other internal departments and with our clients.

This position is located in all Expedient market cities, but we are open to consider any location in the U.S. for the right talent.

Responsibilities of the Cloud  DevOps Engineer

  • Work as part of the Product Operations team on sprints that continuously improve the quality and scalability of Expedient’s Enterprise cloud platform and Multi-Cloud Universal Services
  • Assist in developing the next generation of cloud services focused on optimizing, managing and securing multi-cloud environments
  • Increase efficiency and speed of delivery of Expedient services and products by identifying and automating implementation and release tasks
  • Participate on the Product Operations scrum team creating the stories, scoring the backlog, and being responsible for the development tasks in each defined sprint
  • Ensure appropriate documentation of product releases are generated and maintained for effective hand-off and transition to the Delivery Team and Operations Support Center (OSC)
  • Communicate with Product Owners, directly with clients and internal staff at regular intervals to ensure expectations are set and that appropriate attention is being paid to client projects

Qualifications of the Cloud DevOps Engineer:

  • 3+ years as a cloud infrastructure (Cloud DevOps) engineer in an Enterprise or with a Managed Service Provider (preferred) focused on cloud infrastructure automation, optimization, visualization and security
  • Prior experience in software development and process engineering, mapping, and change/release management
  • Demonstrates a level of competency with many of the following technologies:
    • Cloud Management Platform (CMP) such as Morpheus
    • Observability and Security Platform such as Elastic
    • Scripting/automation/orchestration experience in a production environment (Example: Ansible, Python)
    • Cloud Data Management platforms and solutions
    • VMware vSphere v5.5 through v6.7 (experience with vCloud Director and NSX are a plus)
    • Windows Operating Systems and Active Directory
    • Basic Linux knowledge and experience       
    • Basic networking principles, firewall rules, IP addressing and VLANs
  • Knowledge of a general-purpose programming language such as Java, Python, PHP, Perl or C#.
  • Experience with distributed version control systems such as Git and related tools such as Github and GitLab

  • Strong troubleshooting skills including the ability to identify and resolve challenging situations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Outstanding service and response time working with clients
  • Passion for learning technologies and new ideas
  • Flexibility to be available for occasional scheduled night and weekend implementation projects when required
