Virtualization Engineer

We have an immediate need for a Virtualization Engineer to join the Operations Support Center team.  The successful candidate will have a strong technical acumen and a deep knowledge of VMware, disaster recovery, and SAN fundamentals as well as other general infrastructure products and services. This position will focus on supporting and administering infrastructure across several data centers in either a shared or dedicated client configuration.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide Subject Matter Expert level support for VMware infrastructure and Supported Applications (including vCloud Director, Operations Manager, Log Insight, ESXi and vCenter)
  • Applies analytical skills and technical knowledge to solve system problems of moderate to high complexity.
  • Acts as a technical expert and provides support to clients, partners, and staff
  • Follow security procedures to facilitate customer access requests inside the data center
  • Utilize the trouble ticket system to log all requests and activities including documentation of special requests and customizations considered important for future support
  • Monitor the operational support systems to proactively identify service impacting events relating to IT, network, and facility conditions
  • Communicate with clients and internal staff at regular intervals to ensure expectations are set, and that appropriate attention is being paid to client requests
  • Serve as a top escalation point for complex problems or client expectation setting for tickets within your technical discipline
  • Assist with resolution or service impacting incidents that are large-scale or complex
  • Participate in an on-call rotation specific to your team

REQUIREMENTS

  • Associates degree in technical discipline or equivalent plus no fewer than 3 years of data center related experience with Servers and OS Support.
  • Deep knowledge: vSphere resource management, Storage manipulation (Traditional SAN & vSAN) as well as advanced performance troubleshooting
  • Ability to author and maintain scripts in PowerCLI, Perl and/or Python
  • Basic familiarity with SQL
  • Previously demonstrated experience managing patching across an Enterprise, or within a multi-tenant environment, utilizing VMware Update Manager or similar
  • Demonstrated networking experience with basic tools such as ping, traceroute, vmkping and tcpdump
  • Will be required to perform Advanced Troubleshooting of Data Center Solutions consisting of the following:
  • ESXi, vCenter, vCloud Director, vSAN, traditional SAN, and Disaster Recovery solutions
  • OS Security and hardening concepts

The following are preferred qualifications:

  • Experience or certifications in one or more of the following: VCP, VCAP
  • Experience with the following applications: Zerto, Operations Manager, NSX, vSAN, vCD, vCenter
  • Experience with provisioning and performance tuning virtual workloads
  • Experience automating tasks in a VMware environment
  • Prior customer support experience
  • Prior experience in a multi-tenant or service provider environment
